My inspiration for reportage wedding photography comes from my love of street photography which I started practising in 2004. In 2005 I had an exhibition of my photographs in New York alongside legendary American photographer Mary Ellen Mark. After seeing her photographs of street life in Belfast in the 1970s I went out and bought my Hasselblad Xpan rangefinder camera and began making my own panoramic street pictures.
Street photography is the art of capturing everyday life and portraits of people out on the streets (with the people in the pictures often unaware of the camera). All photographers need to sharpen their eye and this is essentially how I practice for the demands of photographing a wedding.
All of the images below were taken with my panoramic film cameras (Hasselblad XPan and Horizon Perfekt) in various places including New York, Belfast, Dublin, Epsom, Barcelona and Marrakesh. I do occasionally bring these cameras to my weddings. If you want to know more please ask.
