Castle Ward Weddings

Castle Ward, Co Down

Location: Strangford, Downpatrick BT30 7LS, UK  | +44 28 4488 1204

When planning a wedding in Northern Ireland (particularly anywhere south of Belfast) we highly recommend a visit to the National Trust property of Castle Ward.

Castle Ward is situated in a stunning location overlooking Strangford Lough where the lawns rise up to meet the unique 18th century Mansion house and its Gothic façade. Castle Ward is one of those beautifully relaxed and elegant wedding venues which can provide many diverse backdrops for your wedding.

Built in the 1760s, Castle Ward combines history and unique architecture with breathtaking views of Strangford Lough. The estate offers a selection of some of the most fantastic wedding locations anywhere in Northern Ireland. Whether it’s the scenic shores of Strangford Lough, inside the 18th-century Mansion House, the rustic Theatre or in the multi-level Victorian Sunken Garden.

The interior of the Mansion House has a fantastic neo-classical 18th-century hall of assembly with richly decorated walls and a Georgian ceiling with crystal chandelier. Perfect for intimate ceremonies of up to 65 guests.

In addition to the main house, the Theatre is a charming white-walled, rustic barn style space in the Stableyard. It’s convenient for both the Sunken Garden and the Mansion and has it’s own private courtyard. The Theatre can accommodate up to 150 guests for a ceremony or 120 guests for the reception.

Then there is the beautiful Victorian Sunken Garden. Split on three levels and featuring an abundance of exotic flowers and seasonal plants, it provides a beautiful and peaceful location for your wedding ceremony of up to 170 guests. It’s also a perfect location to host your drinks reception.

The 200-year-old Loughshore Coal Quay on the shores of Strangford Lough is a fantastic location for a unique maritime-themed ceremony for up to 80 guests. It can be combined with either the loughshore marquee site or the rustic Theatre for your reception.

For somewhere completely different you can also celebrate your wedding, with up to 100 guests, under the 40-year-old lime trees that lead to the stunning Temple Water and vista that frames the historic Audley’s Castle overlooking Strangford Lough.

Castle Ward weddings can also take place in two fabulous, romantic sites which can host a marquee or tipi-based reception. You can choose from the front lawn of the Mansion, with the classical side of the Mansion as your backdrop, or the wonderful setting beside Strangford Lough with views of old Castle Ward (Game of Thrones’ WinterFell).

The following are the top three reasons why Castle Ward weddings are fantastic, exclusive and memorable events:

1. Castle Ward combines history and unique architecture with breathtaking views of Strangford Lough.

2. The versatility of spaces within Castle Ward make it a fantastic choice for a wedding venue in County Down.

3. Only 50 minutes drive from Belfast your guests will marvel at the scenery of Strangford Lough and the local village of Strangford during their stay for the wedding.
